SATURDAY SUMMER SOCCER 2006
Yes we have
started playing another Soccer round, with a few more new signings
we will now have a squad of 16 or 17 in each of the four teams. So
next year we will hope to have six teams playing.
ROUND 1: 10 goals
scored with half by children which was great to see. Team 1 against
Team 2 won 3-1 with Brandon Kidd excited with his goal to secure all
3 points. While Teams 3 v 4 saw an Austrian in Julian Jahn score 2
for team 3 in the 3-3 draw. A couple of new rules to help it become
more children friendly with Adults now not being able to tackle a
year 7 & under enabled the children to have more of the ball, well
done to you all.
Points now:

pts
ROUND 2:

5-1 down with an Andrew Stransky hat-trick to draw level at 5-5 with
team 2. Joshua Hodgson is improving weekly with one well taken goal
and also Caitlin Hurtado scored as an under 7`s goal. The second
match also saw some great skill in another hard fought encounter,
missing Sam Wrightson last week for team 4 he made up for it with a
hat-tick in their 6 goals while team 1 only let the game slip in the
last 20 minutes with Brandon Kidd another under 7`s also improving
weekly scoring one of their 3 goals.

Team 3 = 4pts Team 4 = 5&1/2 pts
Saturday 7th
October, with a game of mixed players over the holidays it turned
out to be a great contest with a final score of 9-9 after the red
team being 5-1 down at half-time, so all 14 players took a penalty
shoot out with the red team again coming from behind to snatch it on
the last kick at 9-8. Well done to all who played.
ROUND 3: Thanks to captain
Liam Tucker, Team 1 took to the field all in their new grey shirts
but could not christen them with a win after taking the lead with
now top goal scorer David McIsaac on 5. It was Team 3 who finished
4-2 with some help from “extras” making up their team today. Teams 2
v 4 was down to the wire at 2-2 with a grade 7 and under needing to
score before Sam Wrightson broke the deadlock for team 4 in the last
10 minutes then the team were able to score 2 more for an extra half
a point.

RUSSELL
ISLAND SCHOOL`S 90TH BIRTHDAY PARTY 21ST
OCTOBER.
1.30 kick-off
saw an evenly match between all Russell Island School Children years
4 to 7, after an hour at 1-1 we saw the red team win the penalty
shoot out 2-1.
At 3pm we had
a team of Past Students take on a Adult Russell Island all stars
team including a couple of our teachers. A hard fought in counter
with the game put just out of reach of the Past Students in the last
10 minutes with the All Stars winning 5-3.
A final mixed
teams match took place as most of the Past Students were still full
of energy and wanted revenge, trying to involve as many players as
we could who could still run, the Past Students did get their
revenge, as the game was at 3-3 after an hour, and in pouring rain
of the last minute of extra time the Past Students scored their 4th
goal to win the match at 5.30pm.
ROUND 4: Goals, Goals and
more Goals as a youngster from Mt.Gravatt, Zac Young signed up for
Team 1 and scored 9 of the 14 and with David McIsaac a hat-trick as
they beat Team 2, 14-2.
Two more
hat-tricks for Team 4 with Sam Wrightson and Jeremiah Martin and
with 2 goals each from Leah Price and Edwardo Pahanunot in their
11-4 win. William Sneesby scored a well taken goal for Team 3. That
was a total of 31 Goals to keep our spectators cheering on the side
lines.

ROUND 5: After the rain
delayed Saturday last week which in fact saw a fun game played
before it was called off early in the second half due to a heavy
down pour of rain with the score at 5-5. It was back to business for
all 4 teams this weekend. Team 2 scored their first win to the
delight of everyone and with some cracking goals in the 6-5 win,
with Frankie Devitt a new signing scoring his first goal and David
McIsaac getting a hat-trick. A mention for Molly Cann also scoring
her first as she helped team 3.
Teams 1 v 4
was the second game which, depending on results, could be the Grand
Final teams was also a high scoring encounter with team 4 the
winners at 9-7. Rene Pahanunot took the goal of the game after
thrashing in the ball at the near post from a Mick Marriott corner.
Sam Wrightson

a semi-final match between teams 1 v 3 and after a tight start team
1 ran away with it 8-2. In the second game team 4 also showed their
dominance with a 11-1 win over team 2 with both Sam Wrightson and
Edwardo Pahanunot scoring hat-tricks.
Points Totals: Team 1 = 13pts Team 2 =
7pts Team 3 = 9pts Team 4 = 19pts
Saturday the 25th November and the
Grand Final between Team 1 in Grey v Team 4 in Red.
As our Saturday competition comes to a break
until February in the scorching hot sunshine today, another great
turn out with supporters cheering on both teams. The goal of the
competition was seen today and by our eventual top goal scorer Sam
Wrightson with another hat-trick, finished on 17 goals, a cross from
the right to the left edge of the box by Dylan Ashendon saw Sam meet
it on the volley to go straight into the top right hand corner of
the goal, this to give Team 4 a 4-1 lead at half-time. Entertainment
at half-time saw everyone shoot the ball through a tyre to earn a
bag of lollies thanks to our Russell Island Timber & Hardware
Sponsor, Thank you.
So onto the second half and Frankie Devitt scored
2 goals as Team 1 tried a come back but with Leah Price and them
some great team work play before Peter Chippendale netted to make it
7-4 to the Red team, a big Thank you to our ref Eric Short who as
our oldest player shows a great example to our community.
Our Cricket Club
President Frank O`Rourke presented the medals also donated by our
Cricket Club, so a big Thank you to our Cricket Club and all
concerned.
Sunday 26th saw a return match between the Island All
Stars v Past School Students. Not everyone turned up so sides were
made up of juniors to 12 a side as this may well be our last Soccer
game on Jackson Oval until February 17th 2007. Things
started well for the Past Students and went in with a half time lead
6-4. The second half became a good physical challenge and lots of
goals for our healthy spectator crowd with the All Stars winning by
3 in extra time after it was locked at 14 all after 90 minutes. A
special mention to Russell Island Bakery and Victoria Point
Woolworths for helping towards our bar-b-que. Thanks to every one
and see you all in the new year of 2007.
