Winter & Spring Soccer Competition.

Saturday July 14th a new round of games began with the Sharks v Roos kicking off at 1.30 pm for the

“Russell Island Post Office Shield”.

The Roos were down a couple of players and the voted most improved player of the Sharks, Rene

Pahanunot showed why he was with 4 goals, also Kane Stephenson had a great game and netted 2

along with Kevin Casiny. But even though the Roos went down 10-1 the likes of Tom Lilly, River

Bryant and Kyle McCafferty who hit the cross bar from out side the box kept running all game and

Only great goal keeping from Jacob Lyons kept them to only 1 goal, well done to you all.

The Reds v Greys “Fun Adult Hardware Cup” game kicked off at 3 pm and a few children helped

make up the numbers for an 11 a side. It was even all the way through right to the 80 minute when

the Reds evened the score to 9-9 with an unlucky own goal, David McIssac scored 5 and Jacob Fox a

 hat-trick.

ROUND 2: 21st July, the children’s game was very even with the Roos captain Frankie Devitts back and

with Jarrod Hogan and Rene Pahanunot both again scoring for the Sharks the game at 5-5 look set for a

draw but River Bryant turned up late and with 20 minutes to go and scored a hat-trick to win the game

8-5 for the Roos to even the games at 1 win each.

The adult game was another tough encounter and lots of goals, the Reds were a player down for the first

half but went to the break at 3-3 to make things fair one grey player Edwardo Pahanunot swapped over

for the second half after scoring one goal for the Greys scored 5 for the Reds to turn the game, Macker

also scored 5 and captain Liam Tucker 3, and the Reds captain Mick Marriott scored 4 to win 13-10.

ROUND 3: Saturday 28th and another 2 great games in paradise with lots of goals. While the Sharks

were down a couple of players River Bryant and the Roos took charge with 4 goals then the Sharks had

an extra player and got back on level terms just before the half time break. The second half sea-sawed

with both Rene Pahanunot and Zac Manson scoring hat-tricks then Anthony Scott and Kyle McCafferty

scored their first goal`s as the Roos finished the stronger taking the game 13-9, well played everyone.

If the first game was great for the spectators they were in for another treat as this game sea-sawed back

and fourth till the final penalty kick, which ended the match at 8-8. Both captains got on the score sheet

and a couple of the younger children helping out also scored

ROUND 4: Starting on time at 1.30pm saw only 4 Roos players there so to even up matters had 2

players from the Sharks but Kevin Casinay playing against his team netted 3 goals teaming up well with

Kyle McCafferty who finished with 4 goals to his name, so even though the Sharks had done the right

thing to even the game up they went to half time 9-4 down. The second half  saw Rene Pahanunot score

another hat-trick while captain Brandon Kidd scored 4 but with the Roos players turning up even Shawn

Pitts scored a hat-trick and the second half was a lot more evenly matched finishing at 4-4 but overall the

Score was a win to the Roos 13-8 to go 3-1 up in the best of 9 games.

Another hard fought match between the Reds and Greys, again the Reds were a player down so had to

do much more running, Caitlin Hurtado on her 12th birthday scored a screamer with a well timed volley

into the net, but the goal of the day belonged to captain Liam Tucker as he weaved in and out down the

touch line then along the goal line to slice the ball into the back of the net in the second half after being

down 4-5 at half time. The game suffered its first injury as young Frankie Devitt went in for a 50/50

ball right on the edge of the box, we quickly rushed him to the ambulance for professional help and later

was taken for an x-ray on his left shin. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Up-dated news is that he did

suffer a break and will have his leg in plaster for 2 weeks when another x-ray will be taken. Good luck

young Frankie our hearts are all with you for a speedy recovery.

The Reds had run out of puff and even though their captain scored a hat-trick it was not enough going

Down 7-11 to take it to 1-1 after 4 rounds.

ROUND 5: Two more exciting games today with the Sharks again lending the Roos a couple of players

To get things started but it was again Rene Pahanunot and River Bryant both scoring hat-tricks for their

Sides making it end to end soccer, but the Sharks finished the stronger and took the game 8-5.

The next game was also end to end but it was Macker who stole the show not only with his 5 goals but

one a well taken shot from the right side of the box, his brother David scored 4 and along with a hat-trick

from the Reds captain, it again was a nail biter right to the end when little Rene Pahanunot helping the

Reds touched the ball passed his brother to even the game at 9-9.
